Going home and follow up calls

We make enquiries in Senegal and neighbouring countries to find the families of the children in our care. We mediate with the families, develop and implement projects for the child’s return home and continue to monitor their progress once the children are reunited with their families.

During a child’s stay with us, we try to find out what their background and experiences are in order to be able to evaluate how pertinent it would be for them to return to their family.  If and when they go home, we accompany them on the journey to find their parents.  When we arrive, we sit down with the family in order to explain the child’s new situation and his desire to be reunited with them.

Once this discussion has taken place, we make the necessary arrangements to put in place the structures necessary for the fruition of the project which has been prepared with the child over the previous weeks: schooling, apprenticeship, developing market garden or livestock farming.

In order to insure the success of the venture, we regularly visit the child to make sure that he is gradually reintegrating with the family and continuing with the activity he chose to pursue on his return.
