Centre for adolescents and young adults: Springboard

Provides accommodation and has structures in place to emotionally stabilise the young men and to find them employment using practical therapy, vocational training and a literacy programme.

It is situated near Lake Rose and welcomes over 16s.

Springboard opened in 2008.  The first dormitories, kitchen, recreational room, classroom, office, brick making workshop and wells were built by the young residents as part of their training programme.

The project allowed 15 young men aged between 16 and 22 to leave the streets, to learn to live as part of a community and to acquire a trade in the field of construction.  Training in agrobiology was implemented to get the young men to start projects making their village self-sufficient for food.

An area is under construction for volunteers.  This will enable us to accomodate volunteers, interns or retired professionals who can instruct the young men in various building techniques (tiling, electrics, plumbing…).

In order to promote the use of renewable energy, three workshops have been developed: making wind turbines, energy efficient cooking stoves and “green charcoal”.
